NIMITZ is a novel nematicide developed globally by Adama. It is the first new chemical nematicide to be developed in more than 20 years. No other plant protection product in the world has the same mode of action or ability to deliver a higher level of efficacy from a single nematicide application.

Additionally, NIMITZ is a “true nematicide.” The active ingredient causes irreversible nematicidal activity lethal to all nematode stages within 48 hours of exposure. That’s the power of NIMITZ.

NIMITZ has the signal word of ‘Caution’ on its label which allows growers to avoid public hazard and complex regulations associated with fumigant nematicides.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements are less complicated – requiring only a long-sleeve shirts, pants and chemical resistant gloves. And, in contrast to fumigant nematicides, growers are not required to have a Fumigant Management Plan, 24-hour field monitoring, restrictive buffer zones and make applications with no re-entry interval (REI = 0 hours). That's the power of safety.

When applying NIMITZ through drip irrigation a closed system is required in order to minimize exposure to product handlers. There are multiple examples available to either meter NIMITZ directly into the irrigation line or dispense into a mixing tank prior to injection.

Label Guidelines

NIMITZ is applied at a rate range of 3.5 to 5.0 pts/treated acre (56 to 80 fl oz/A) using soil spray application equipment a minimum of 7 days before transplanting. Do not apply more than 1 application per crop. If there is more than one crop per year a second crop may be treated but, the maximum yearly use limit is 112 fl oz (7 pts) of product per planted acre per year (365 days). The same rates are used for drip irrigation application.

Applications must be incorporated mechanically to a depth of 6 to 8 inches by cultivation or applied with sufficient irrigation to deliver the product to the future root-zone.

Movement of NIMITZ through the soil is facilitated by water, whereby maximum efficacy is achieved by moving product into the nematode zone. This can be accomplished by supplemental irrigation prior to transplanting. Undispersed product left at high concentrations around the developing root system will slow growth and impede plant establishment. Moving NIMITZ into the soil profile reaches a larger nematode population and protects developing roots. Higher concentrations of clay in the soil can retard NIMITZ dispersion. Supplemental irrigation should be based on the following soil types and irrigation methods.
